Biografie

Mr. Alfonso Romero as General Manager of the 73-villa luxury resort located in Southern Bali.

An established figure within Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts, Mr. Romero’s transfer to Banyan Tree Ungasan Bali follows his tenure as interim General Manager of Angsana Fuxian Lake, Chengiiang, China a villa resort within the Singaporean hotel group’s portfolio.

His capacity to operate as part of result-orientated task force has seen him at the helm as Area General Manager through pre-opening and launch phases for both Banyan Tree and Angsana properties in Chongqing Beibei, China; and as General Manager of Banyan Tree Club & Spa Seoul, Korea.

Mr. Romero brings with him 25 years of industry experience, having worked in 5-star hotels across Europe and Asia. He has dealt with all aspects of operations, sales, marketing and crisis management situations.  A high achiever, his professional accolades include the Civil Merit Cross Award from King Juan Carlos I of Spain; and Award of Appreciation from Chaîne des Rôtisseurs for the title of “Maître Hotelier”.

His first venture to Indonesia’s foremost tropical island holiday destination was 1996-1998 when he worked at the Melia Bali Hotel and Melia Benoa Hotel; and again between 2004-2007 with Melia Bali Hotel Villas & Spa. Other assignments for the Spanish hotel chain include Area Vice President and General Manager for properties in Shanghai and Beijing in China; Jakarta, Indonesia; Hua Hin, Thailand and Hanoi, Vietnam.

Hailing from Antequera, Spain, Mr. Romero attended business school receiving his Business Accounting diploma for Hotels & Spas from Marbella Hotel School; a diploma in Tourist Development, Promotion & New Tourist Markets from University of Malaga, Spain; and is a Certified Hotel Administrator from the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute. He established his career path in hospitality general management at Lanzarote Beach Club & Sirocco and Lanzarote’s 5-star Beatriz Playa Hotel in Spain’s Canary Islands, located off the coast of Africa, in the Atlantic Ocean.

Mr. Romero speaks Spanish, English, French and Italian. In his personal time Mr. Romero enjoys sport and jogging to maintain his fitness. He also pursues a number of charitable interests. His past activities were recognised with an award and medal from the Social Republic of Vietnam’s Government Ministry and Chairman of the Vietnam Commission for Population, Family and Children for the Cause of Protection and Care of Children. Romero fulfills his fascination with Asia by taking opportunities to travel and explore the diversity of its many cultures.
