These are among the most common ways of marking marine turtles. They are based on the design used for cattle branding, and carry a return address, which allows anyone who encounters the turtle to contact our project team and let us know of the turtle's fate and where its travels have taken it. The great advantage of this method is that the tags are placed on the front flippers, where everyone can see them. A disadvantage is that they slowly corrode and last on average less than ten years. All the turtles released by Banyan Tree Maldives and Angsana Ihuru have been fitted with titanium tags.
