Mr. Stefan Thumiger, Area General Manager, Banyan Tree Bintan
General Manager Biography
Mr. Stefan Thumiger joined the Banyan Tree group in 2008 as the General Manager for Pre-Openings based in the Corporate Office in Bangkok, Thailand. In this position he was involved in the planning of operational aspects of Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts projects in Seoul, Macau and Dubai. In May 2009, Mr Thumiger was tasked to open Banyan Tree Club & Spa Seoul, comprising of a High Society Private Members Club as well as a Hotel. He was appointed General Manager of Banyan Tree Tianjin Riverside in 2011 and is currently overseeing both Banyan Tree and Angsana Bintan as Area General Manager.
Before joining the Banyan Tree family, Mr. Thumiger has held a variety of positions in various luxury hotels before leaving Switzerland for Australia in 1992 where he joined the Burswood Resort Hotel & Casino, Perth, as Assistant Food & Beverage Manager. In 1997, his career led him to Indonesia where he opened a Hotel for Sol Melia as Food & Beverage Manager before moving on to Le Meridien Resort & Casino in Vanuatu in the South Pacific. In 1999, he joined Hilton International and opened the Hilton Sharm Dreams in Egypt before transferring the Ankara Hilton in Turkey. He was promoted to Director of Operations in 2004 and took up this position in Hilton Corniche in Abu Dhabi, UAE, and two years later moved to the Abu Dhabi Hilton in the same position.
