ABOUT BANYAN TREE LIJIANG
Banyan Tree Lijiang is located 2,000 metres above sea level and is 40 minutes away from Lijiang airport. It garnered an award for Best Luxury Hotel and Best Spa Resort in China during the 2007 China Hotel Starlight Award ceremony.
The resort is 15 minutes from the historical town of Dayan and basks in the shadow of the magnificently desolate Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.
Shuhe, which is known to local people as Longquan Village which is said to be the birthplace of the eminent Mu Family of Naxi minority ethnic group. Renowned as "Village of Leather", the Old Town of Shuhe has a prosperous market in the central square covering an area of 250 square meters which used to be fur and leather trading center in Lijiang and has many excellent artisans that good at fur and leather processing.
Walking northward along Shuhe Street for 100 meters, visitors will get to the fountain head of Jiudinglong Pool which is regarded as a holy spring by the local people. The Beiquan Temple, North Spring Temple built near the pool is the same style as other temples in Lijiang. The Sansheng Temple standing by the spring is a traditional Chinese quadrangle.
There is a deep pool at the end of the street, called Long Pool (Dragon Pool), from which the overflowing water winds through the village, and the bubbling sound can be heard miles away. Fishes in the pool are appreciated by every tourist, because they are close to people. When you throw food to them, they will fight each other for it. Beside the pool lies a broken stele. When knocked by a stone, it sends out a sharp and light ringing sound, which is very pleasant. Above Long Pool is a temple called 'Sansheng Palace'. Standing against the wooden railings, you can have a bird's eye view of the village presenting a poetic rural idyll. In addition, the Old Town of Shuhe was once famous for its developed leatherworking and education.
