“We are honoured to be awarded the Best Spa Operator at the 6th China Hotel Starlight Awards 2010 for the third consecutive year. This award is a testimony of Banyan Tree Spa’s strong brand recognition and consistent high quality of service which is the result of our core focus on the rigorous training and development of our spa therapists at Banyan Tree Spa Academies in Phuket (Thailand), Lijiang (China) and Bintan (Indonesia). China is now taking the central position in our growth strategy and more Banyan Tree Spas and Angsana Spas will be launched in this dynamic market. ” says Mr Ravi Chandran, Managing Director of Banyan Tree Spa.

Award-winning Banyan Tree Spa, the first luxury oriental spa in Asia, extended its reach into China in 2003. Within 7 years, as a mark of strong sustainable growth in China, Banyan Tree Spa has extended its foray in Shanghai, Lijiang, Ringha, Sanya and Hangzhou. All the spas are nestled within Banyan Tree resorts with the exception of Banyan Tree Spa Shanghai which is strategically located in bustling Westin Bund Centre.

Drawing expertise from Banyan Tree Spa, the sister brand Angsana Spa debut in China with the opening of Angsana Spa The Garden Hotel, Guangzhou in 2007 followed by Angsana Spa Narada Resort & Spa, Sanya, Angsana Spa Hotel Nikko Shanghai and Angsana Spa Fuxian Lake which is located in the Group’s first Angsana branded property in China - Angsana Fuxian Lake.

Banyan Tree Spa Philosophy
Like the tropical and sacred tree from which it got its name, the Banyan Tree Spa offers guests a sanctuary for the senses – a place for physical, mental and spiritual renewal. To achieve this, the Spa focuses on a non-clinical and holistic approach based on traditional Asian healing therapies. It emphasises on a ‘high-touch, low-tech’ approach that celebrates the human touch and the use of natural herbs and spices.

Banyan Tree Spa Academy
Based on the knowledge and expertise it has accumulated in catering to the needs of its discerning international clientele, Banyan Tree Spa has developed its own signature techniques, treatment recipes and training philosophy.

The Banyan Tree Spa Academy trains a dedicated group of therapists for both Banyan Tree Spa and sister brand, Angsana Spa. The training programme encompasses all areas of spa therapy, including knowledge of the human anatomy and important pressure points, modern and traditional massage techniques, variation of body weight for different techniques, knowledge of skin epidermis and facial applications, properties of different herbs and spices, preparation of spa ingredients, setting up of treatment rooms and spa pavilions, and standard greeting procedures.

The Banyan Tree Spa Academy Phuket is accredited by Thailand’s Ministry of Education and Ministry of Public Health. Banyan Tree Spa Academy was also established in Bintan, Indonesia in December 2003 and is licensed by Indonesia’s Ministry of Education. Banyan Tree Spa extended its reach into China, with the opening of Banyan Tree Spa Academy in Ljiiang, China in March 2007 to train dedicated Chinese spa therapists, well-versed in delivering the high service standards of the Banyan Tree Spa experience in China.

The Banyan Tree Spa Academy has trained over 1,300 therapists for its Spas worldwide. It actively functions to identify international trends, develop experienced trainers, and carry out research and development for new treatments, recipes, techniques and products, so as to maintain its leadership position in the spa industry and in line with its rapid worldwide expansion plans.
