Category: Spas

Singapore, January 2013 –Banyan Tree Spa invites guests to embrace wellness and relish therestorative powers of nature to kick-start the New Year. The leading Asian spa operator places special emphasis on the use of natural herbs and spices in its spa treatments. This echoes the Spa’s philosophy that focuses on a non-clinical and holistic ‘high-touch, low-tech’ approach that celebrates the human touch and harnesses the botanical benefits of nature.

This same philosophy is communicated to its dedicated group of spa therapists who undergo the training curriculum formalised by the Banyan Tree Spa Academies in Phuket, Thailand, Lijiang, China and Bintan, Indonesia. Spa trainers at Banyan Tree Spa Academies seek to identify and incorporate local ingredients into the signature spa treatments to create a destination-inspired experience.

Ginger

Ginger has been used in Asian medicine for thousands of years. First cultivated in South Asia, ginger is commonly used in numerous cuisineand is known for its anti-inflammatory benefit.

Perfect for dry skin, a Warm Ginger Body Scrub featured in Banyan Tree Spa Hangzhou’s Oriental Bath Experience effectively cleanses and moisturises. The warming effects of ginger also help to improve circulation and promote detoxification.

The Thai Ginger Healer package highlighted in Banyan Tree Spa Phuket’s Thai Traditions restores the skin to its natural balance and radiance with a Ginger Body Scrub, Thai Herbal Heat treatment and Herbal Enhancer, a soothing body wrap consisting of tangerine, cucumber, honey, the Thai herb plai, mint and turmeric. A Yoga Massage follows to improve circulation and flexibility with gentle and therapeutic stretching. This treatment concludes with an Aromatic Ginger Bath.

Lemongrass

The application of lemongrass can help alleviate various skin issues and irritations as it has antiseptic and anti-bacterial properties. Its scent calms and aids in relaxation and the reduction of anxiety.

A Lemongrass Cucumber Body Scrub featured in Banyan Tree Spa Al Wadi’s Royal Banyan treatment combines lemongrass with cucumber to revitalise and refresh the skin as it is gently exfoliated. This body scrub has inspired a Lemongrass Cucumber Body Care Collection that comprises a Shower Gel, Body Scrub and Body Lotion, and is also available for sale online at Banyan Tree’s retail arm, Banyan Tree Gallery.

Additionally, the consumption of lemongrass also helps to detoxify the body, in particular the digestive system by the body’s natural excretion of toxins. The post-treatment herbal drink served at Banyan Tree Spas features fresh lemongrass which is brewed into a tea daily.

Soy Beans

The nutritious combination of Vitamin E, Vitamin B complex and proteins found in soy beans helps to improve the elastic quality of the skin and hair. It has specific anti-oxidant nature which maintains the skin’s health and pH levels, slowing down the development and appearance of wrinkles. Soy bean oil helps to promote glowing and brighter skin, evens out the skin tone and moisturises the skin texture.

This ingredient is used in Banyan Tree Spa Bintan’s signature Tropical Rainmist package – Hydrating Sprinkle where a Soya Bean Body Scrub is used to exfoliate and moisturise the skin. A sensory pleasure of the trickling Rain Shower embraces the guests, bringing about comfort and tranquillity as tension is massaged away by the therapeutic touch of the therapist.

Sesame

The sesame seed is highly valued for its oil which is exceptionally resistant to rancidity. A good source of calcium, magnesium, copper, iron, phosphorus, Vitamin B1 and zinc, this tiny seed has shown to have a cholesterol-lowering effect. Its oil is commonly used in many spa treatments for its anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.

One of the signature treatments that uses Sesame Oil is the Royal Banyan treatment. Featured in all Banyan Tree Spas worldwide, this signature therapy features the Royal Banyan Herbal Pouch Massage where an herbal pouch dipped in warm Sesame Oil, complements the East-meets-West massage techniques to improve blood circulation and muscular tension while soothing the skin.

Turmeric

Useful in soothing skin irritations and healing acne, the turmeric has anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties. This vivid yellow spice is also used in traditional Indian Ayurvedic treatments and Chinese medicines, both externally and for consumption.

Turmeric and honey is mixed with tamarind and sesame seeds to create a gentle and moisturising Honey Turmeric Body Scrub which is suitable for all skin types at Elements Spa By Banyan Tree, Kuwait. This body scrub has inspired the Honey Turmeric Body Care Collection, consisting of a Shower Gel, Body Scrub and Body Lotion, and is also available for sale online at Banyan Tree Gallery.
