Phuket
. . . . . . .

The story of Banyan Tree Phuket’s genesis is well known. From the tortured terrain of an abandoned tin mine, it has turned into a sanctuary for numerous plants and animals. Fruit trees and fish alike, wild ducks and white egrets, now make Banyan Tree Phuket their home.

Such a transformation was made possible by introducing topsoil enhanced with fertilizers to stabilize the ground, preserving existing trees and planting new ones. The new plants were carefully selected: only indigenous and environmentally appropriate plants, such as the hardy Casuarina Fir and versatile coconut palm, were chosen.

The villas were also designed to blend with the surroundings. From within the villas and all around them, our guests are keenly aware of the sights, sounds and smells of nature, from

the swaying palms and dawn chorus to the sweet floral scent. It is unthinkable that all this could have remained what the United Nations once described as a toxic wasteland too severely damaged to support vegetation.
