Banyan Tree releases 2010 Sustainability Report on its CSR programmes

Singapore– Banyan Tree Holdings Ltd (“Banyan Tree”) has released its 2010 Sustainability Report, titled Global Sustainable Destinations. This marks the 5th edition of the report which is released annually.
In Global Sustainable Destinations, the key achievements and group efforts towards sustainability are highlighted, including:
• Banyan Tree Lijiang’s continuing efforts to maintain EarthCheck Silver Certified status for the fourth year running, having successfully achieved this in 2008, 2009, and 2010. Additionally, five other resorts - Banyan Tree Bintan, Banyan Tree Ringha, Banyan Tree Ungasan, Angsana Bintan and Angsana Velavaru - achieved EarthCheck Bronze Benchmarked status in 2010, with another seven resorts - Banyan Tree Mayakoba, Banyan Tree Vabbifanru, Banyan Tree Madivaru, Banyan Tree Phuket, Banyan Tree Seychelles, Angsana Ihuru, and Angsana Great Barrier Reef - participating in the first phase of Banyan Tree’s commitment to bringing all its resorts under the EarthCheck program.
• Banyan Tree’s group-wide Greening Communities initiative, planted almost 47,000 trees in 2010, bringing the total number of trees planted by Banyan Tree up to 96,673 since the initiative launched in 2007.
• Additional mentor training and intakes of young people into Banyan Tree’s group-wide Seedlings initiative to provide mentorship and scholarships for young people. The expansion in 2010 brought the Seedlings totals to 11 participating resorts, 12 internal mentor trainers, 20 new young people added to the program, 46 young people active under mentorship and scholarship, and a total of 89 trained mentors either already actively working with young people or ready to become mentors.
