Travel north along the Yunnan Tibetan road to the upper Yangtze Gorge, passing the Napha Flood Plains where the rare black-neck cranes migrate for the winter. Discover small villages and lime stone terrain that takes you to an intriguing flat-roofed Tibetan house. This distinctive abode is where prized Tibetan wooden teacups, barley bowls and carved tables are made. Drive further north to the town of Punzera via Dhondupling Monastery, before beginning the thrilling ascent to Baima Mountain Pass. Breathe in the crisp air surrounding Mount Kawakarpo at an altitude of 6740m, before reaching your final destination at Dechen. This is the second most important sacred mountain in Tibet and a site of holy pilgrimage for Buddhist Tibetans.
