The trek to Gyalthang provides rich insight into the culture and lifestyle of the Tibetans of Shangri-La. Journey across the vast valley of Ringha to the village of Zo Mu Gu, passing through village fields ripe with sumptuous barley, potatoes and turnips. Horses, yaks and pigs graze freely in the Laza grasslands. Follow the mountain path for about an hour through the forest, before descending to a scenic meadow near Tsalong village. Partake in a picnic lunch on the meadow and visit a Tibetan family for a cup of fragrant yak butter tea. The trek continues with a gentle ascent up one side of a mountain covered with lush fields of rhododendron and young pine. Take in the spectacular view before we reach the back compound of the Gyalthang Dzong Hotel. We drive back to Banyan Tree Ringha after a short rest and visit.
