Octopus Curry (Kari Zourit)

Long before electricity arrived in Seychelles, a cornucopia of spices such as masala, long pepper, hot chilies, curry and cinnamon were used to preserve food. Naturally, Seychellois developed a penchant for piquant, fragrant and rich curries with freshly pressed coconut cream.

The most famous of all Seychellois curries is the Octopus Curry. A signature dish expected at every wedding and confirmation celebration on the island, Octopus or Zourit curry, features the archipelago’s most beloved delicacies - seafood and curry. This Creole comfort food is often accompanied by papaya chutney and served along the national staple, rice.
