Mexican Independence Day

Mexicans celebrate their country’s Independence Day with fireworks, parties (fiestas), food, dance and music on September 16th. Flags, flowers and decorations in the colors of the Mexican flag – red, white and green – are seen in public areas in cities and towns in Mexico. Whistles and horns are blown and confetti is thrown to celebrate this festive occasion. "Viva Mexico" or "Viva la Independencia” are shouted amidst the crowds on this day in Playa del Carmen.

Sacred Mayan Journey

This is an event that recreates the most antique traditions of Mayan Culture; the pilgrimage that year after year the canoeists perform sculling to Cozumel Island to worship with offerings Ixchel, the Mayan Moon Goddess of fertility, textiles and medicine. Seeking her divine message for the Mayan people.

Come see how the brave canoeists go on a journey to face their fears and scull from Bahía Dos Playas in Xcaret to Park Chankannab in Cozumel with the purpose of worship and to honor the Goddess Ixchel. Value the scents, colors and sensations of Caribbean from a different perspective and enjoy this amazing cultural event along with music, dance and the amazing effort of Xcaret canoeists.

Having lived 8 years in Brasil, participate and paraded in both Rio de Janiero’s & São Paulo’s Carnavals; Carl Emberson thought Carnaval Mayakoba (www.mayakoba.com) was a great opportunity of adapting the wonderful natural setting the waterways of Mayakoba offer to create a very own Carnaval something which he visions will grow on to something special in the years to come. Viva el Carnaval! Viva la Vida! Viva Mayakoba!
