Every two times a year, Laguna Bintan Conservation Team relocated nests of green turtle (Chelonia mydas), endangered species into our on-site hatchery hatchery.
The team cares for them until they are old enough to return to the ocean, providing lucky guests with the unique opportunity to witness the hatchlings being released.
We are committed in reducing the use of plastic in the resort to protect the enviroment. At Banyan Tree Bintan, we care about the environmental impact that our activities may cause, minimize our foot print impact to the environment.
We have installed heat pumps for villas to reduce electric consumption. To minimize single plastic use, We have our own water bottling production that successfully reduce our single plastic foot print until 35%.
As part of our efforts to raise awareness to combat global warming and climate change issue, as well as to recover damaged areas of Bintan Island, we do regular greening communities. 72,299 hard wood trees and mangroves have been planted since 2007 with engaging various stakeholders.
Club Study Coral of Maritime University of Raja Ali Haji (UMRAH), Pengudang Bintan mangrove, and Watershed Agency (Bapedas HL) Seijang Duriangkan of Kepri are our regular partners for greening community project.
Launched in 2007, our SEEDLINGS program is an initiative of the Banyan Group that aims to nurture young people by providing education and vocational skills preparing them for life and work,.
Through selection process, our resort has recruited 46 seedlings to join the program.
Seedlings has two main program, 1) mentoring, provided by our trained associates 2) scholarship, financial support which is provided until the end of upper secondary education, having a total duration of 5- 6 years.
Some talented seedlings also get support to advanced seedlings scholarship which allow them to continue study until university.
EarthCheck, the world's leading scientific benchmarking and certification group for sustainable tourism, awarded our resort Gold Certification as recognition for membership since 2009 and continuous certification since 2013 which incorporates annual measurement of operational indicators such as energy; emissions; water, waste and paper use; chemical and pesticide use; and community involvement.
The ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy of Indonesia awarded the ‘Green Hotel Award in 2010. As first winner / green gold certification for governance category in 2017 Indonesia Sustainable Tourism Award (ISTA) for our commitment toward sustainable hotel practices, covering areas : environment, community, economy, and governance, following sustainability tourism guideline from The Indonesia Government. Recognized by GSTC (Global Sustainable Tourism Council) standard.
