Embracing the Environment, Empowering People

Banyan Tree was founded with the core value of driving sustainable development. We employ an integrated and participatory approach, to minimize our impact while safeguarding and enhancing the human and physical environment for present and future generations.

As stewards of responsible tourism, we have conceptualized our values in our “Brand for Good” framework to go beyond the precautionary approach and inspire exceptional experiences among our guests to “embrace the environment and empower people” at each of our locations.

Sustainability Achievements

Banyan Tree Tamouda Bay has been the recipient of various industry-recognized awards for our compliance to the most stringent environmental practices and commitment to corporate social responsibility.

Plastic-Free Banyan Tree

Our resort is committed to our brand-wide pledge to reduce and ultimately eliminate single-use plastics from our operations, as part of our continued effort to directly address the detrimental effect that plastic is having on the environment and marine life

In Banyan Tree Tamouda Bay, we took immediate steps to plan many CSR activities while engaging the resort’s staff and guests. During the first six months of 2019, more than 87 volunteers gathered around 236kg of plastic waste on the local beach.

As part of our efforts to decrease our use of plastic, our laundry team collected old bed sheets that have been repurposed as laundry garment covers.

Resource Conservation

Banyan Tree’s efforts connect with the issue of global climate action by conserving resources through efficient operations, with external assurance by EarthCheck, the leading benchmarking certification within the travel and tourism industry.

Since 2016, we have conducted many recycling workshops to reuse paper from different departments. Recycled paper are used to produce gift cards, which are then given to associates on different events and celebrations. Associates look forward to this activity because it bonds people together and promotes an inclusive culture.

Greening Communities Together

Our aim is to restore the natural environment, whilst raising awareness of climate change through tree-planting events, around the area in which we operate, with a current target of 2,000 trees per year. In the first ten years we planted almost half a million trees in various Banyan Tree properties around the world, and we aim to plant 25,000 during our 25th anniversary year.

Supporting Local Communities

Supporting long-term societal prosperity is central to Banyan Tree’s ability to create value for local communities and this is achieved by empowering them through job creation, education, supporting artisanal cooperatives, community impact initiatives, humanitarian relief and connecting travelers to local culture and heritage.

One of our core aim is to spread smiles to local communities. Thus, it has become a ritual in our resort to collect clothes from our Associates for donation purposes. Frequently, we invite underprivileged families from the region to have lunch at the property. During lunch, we pass them the clothes we have collected.

Community Cleaning

We aim to organize a minimum of 12 cleaning activities each year, to engage members of the local community, our guests and our associates with the need for effective waste management and to promote responsible consumption of resources and maintaining a healthy environment.

Cooking Workshop

Learn to make gourmet cuisine through a creative and engaging cooking session! Choose between traditional Moroccan or / and Thai cuisine with our experienced chefs. During the mindful cooking classes, guests practice sustainability by using local ingredients that are in-season.

Diving Trip

Whether you are an experienced diver or just someone eager to learn the basics, an undersea adventure awaits at the bay of Belyounech. While discovering the clear blue waters, each diver also brings back a piece of garbage or debris found underwater. Banyan Tree Tamouda Bay thrives to make a positive effect on the marine environment, and with this activity, we combine leisure with doing good.
