BTMEMI Art on Mamula Island by Banyan Tree Vildana Kilian

Artist in Residence Vildana Killian

From 8 till 15 July, 2026

Mamula Island by Banyan Tree

"My stay on Mamula Island is a continuation of my work on the value of heritage, and of my broader project exploring the healing of space. What inspires me most as an artist, here, is the pursuit of independence.”

As part of our In-Residence Program, in cooperation with the ARTRO Gallery, Mamula Island by Banyan Tree will become a studio,

sanctuary, and source of inspiration for artist Vildana Killian. Between 8 to 15 July, Vildana will complete

a number of in-progress pieces on the island, drawing directly from our landscape and light.

By the close of her residency, a selection of works - including miniature geometric drawings, tapestries, and a sculpture of the ‘lastavica’ (the swallow bird) - will be exhibited, with one piece remaining on the island as a lasting mark of her time here.

During the week, guests can witness Vildana’s creative process unfold and even join her for a private workshop on meditative drawing, using natural Montenegrin pigments to explore the preservation of nature.

About Vildana

Born in Podgorica, Vildana’s art has taken her around the world. Having honed her passion for working with wood and stone at the Art Students League of New York, she earned a master’s degree at The King’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts in London, deepening her knowledge of traditional techniques and their place within contemporary artistic practice. Through international workshops and artist residencies, Vildana continues to explore how tradition and inherited symbolism can shape material expression today.

Private Workshops

Sacred Geometry and Natural Pigments

During her artist residency, Vildana will lead a two-hour workshop that explores sacred forms, geometric proportions, and the ritual dimension of art. Using natural pigments sourced from Montenegrin soil, guests will be guided through a meditative drawing practice that draws on ancient knowledge, inner balance, and Mamula’s elemental setting. This is a rare chance to create slowly, with the island as both material and muse.

Space is limited. Booking is essential.
