The gold - leaf - inlaying technique of Nanjing Gold Leaf dates back to the Eastern Jin Dynasty and thrived in the Ming and Qing dynasties. With a history of over 1,700 years, it is hailed as “a unique treasure of China” and was included in the national intangible cultural heritage list in 2006. Customers use specially prepared blue and white porcelain cup, designating a specific area for inlaying. The process of inlaying gold leaf is a hands - on experience of Nanjing's intangible cultural heritage, deepening the understanding and recognition of it.
As a municipal-level intangible cultural heritage project, the Nanjing Lacquer Fan carries on the inheritance context of Nanjing lacquerware craftsmanship and serves as a cultural link connecting the past and the present.
During the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty, when Nanjing was the capital, top craftsmen from across the country gathered here, and the cloisonné enamel craft reached great prosperity—driven by imperial demand, the craftsmanship became increasingly sophisticated.
