Banyan Tree was founded with the core value of driving sustainable development. We employ an integrated and participatory approach, to minimise our impact while safeguarding and enhancing the human and physical environment for present and future generations.

As stewards of responsible tourism, we have conceptualised our values in our “Brand for Good” framework to go beyond the precautionary approach and inspire exceptional experiences among our guests to “embrace the environment and empower people” at each of our locations.

Sustainability Achievements


Banyan Tree Bangkok has been the recipient of various industry-recognized awards for our compliance to the most stringent environmental practices and commitment to corporate social responsibility.

EarthCheck Gold Certification

 EarthCheck is the world’s leading scientific benchmarking, certification and advisory group for travel and        tourism.

Our Gold Certification provides recognition of our continuous commitment to sustainable practices and third party verification by EarthCheck since 2012, which incorporates annual measurement of operational indicators such as energy utilisation, emissions, water, waste, paper and chemical usage and also corporate social responsibility initiatives.

Green Office Award: “Bangkok Low Carbon Society

Banyan Tree Bangkok has been awarded the Green Office Award: “Bangkok Low Carbon Society” by Bangkok’s Department of Environment. This award recognises the hotel’s environmental practice, employee understanding and reduction of carbon emission.

Plastic-Free Banyan Tree


Our resort is committed to our brand-wide pledge to reduce and ultimately eliminate single-use plastics from our operations, as part of our continued effort to directly address the detrimental effect that plastic is having on the environment and marine life.

 Banyan Tree Bangkok has eliminated 35% of targeted single-use plastic items, including 300,000 straws and 168,000 plastic-bottled beverages. We continue to target reduction and elimination of commonly-used items, as part of our pledge to be single-use plastic free.

Resource Conservation


Banyan Tree’s efforts connect with the issue of global climate action by conserving resources through efficient operations, with external assurance by EarthCheck, the leading benchmarking certification within the travel and tourism industry.

Banyan Tree Bangkok is partners with the Scholars of Sustenance Foundation, Thailand (SOS) - who collect and distribute surplus food for the benefit of people in need.

Since July 2018, Banyan Tree Bangkok has donated 2287kg of food, equating to a greenhouse gas emissions saving of 4,345 kilos (Co₂-e (kg)). Our food donations have provided over 9,605 meals to those in need.

Greening Communities Together


Our aim is to restore the natural environment, whilst raising awareness of climate change through tree-planting events, around the area in which we operate, with a current target of 2,000 trees per year. In the first ten years we planted almost half a million trees, and we aim to plant 25,000 during our 25th anniversary year.

SEEDLINGS


Our Seedlings programme was created to nurture young people at risk of societal exclusion, providing vocational and life skills and education, and preparing them for life and work.

 Launched in 2007, this two phased programme supports mentorship and scholarships:

 Mentorship: Young people between the age of 12 and 18 are mentored by volunteering associates who have undergone mentor training.

 Scholarships: Banyan Tree provides financial support for young people who face challenges in furthering their education due to lack of finances.

Supporting Local Communities


Supporting long-term societal prosperity is central to Banyan Tree’s ability to create value for local communities and this is achieved by empowering them through job creation, education, supporting artisanal cooperatives, community impact initiatives, humanitarian relief and connecting travelers to local culture and heritage.

Community Cleaning


We aim to organise a minimum of four cleaning activities each year, to engage members of the local community, our guests and our associates with the need for effective waste management and to promote responsible consumption of resources and maintaining a healthy environment.
